The Industrial Research Assistance Program (IRAP), administered by National Research Council Canada (NRC), includes the Youth Employment Program. This provides innovative small and medium-sized corporations with a partial contribution towards the salary of a post-secondary graduate hired on an internship of between six and twelve months.
Companies are eligible for a contribution if they are incorporated, have less than 500 full-time employees, and are seeking to expand their capacity to engage in innovative projects. Graduates are eligible if they are aged between 15-30, are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada, have graduated from a post-secondary institution, and have not previously participated in a placement through the Career Focus stream of the Government of Canada’s Youth Employment Strategy.* The term of employment must be between 6 and 12 months, and the graduate must perform technical work or non-technical work in support of a technology-related project.
A contribution is made towards the salary of an eligible employee, the size of which is variable.
