The Canada-Ontario Job Grant (COJG), administered by Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges, and Universities, provides funding to firms that purchase third-party training or education for their employees or new hires. Non-repayable contributions are provided on a per-employee basis towards costs such as tuition fees, textbooks and software, student fees, and examination fees.
Employers must currently employ the individual(s) for whom training is purchased, or else guarantee to employ them upon conclusion of the training. Training must be delivered within Ontario and be related to an Ontario-based job. Training must be delivered by a college, a university, a school board, a private (third-party) trainer, a union-based training centre, or a product vendor. Priority is given to instances where training is needed for an employee to take on a new or better job, or to instances where training is needed for an employee who has received a lay-off notice to retain their position.
The grant is worth up to two thirds of each employee’s eligible training costs, up to a maximum of $10,000 per employee. Businesses with 50 or fewer employees can make up to half of their minimum one-third contribution to eligible costs in-kind through wages paid to trainees. Businesses with more than 50 employees must make all of their minimum one-third contribution to eligible costs in cash.
Applications are made online. Go here to download and submit the application form. Applications are assessed on an ongoing basis. Multiple employees can be included on a single application.
